Ted McCarthy has studied technology use around the world for nearly 15 years, focusing especially on the Global South — first in academia, and then for over seven years at Google, where he led user experience (UX) research on a number of internet access projects. Ted now freelances in global UX research and is writing a book exploring how the internet is changing global culture, economics and politics. He also publishes The Web and the World, a podcast and Substack newsletter examining the same.
