Eberhard Fischer (born 1941) is a cultural anthropologist and art historian. He was Director of Museum Rietberg Zürich, the Swiss museum of non-Western art, from 1972 to 1998. He received his PhD with field studies documenting tribal mask-carvers in West Africa. In 1965, he took a one-year teaching assignment at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad, India. For his publications and films on outstanding African sculptors, the Government of Ivory Coast awarded Fischer Officier de l’ordre du mérite ivoirien. He received a Padma Shri award in 2012.
