Heinz Fischer was president of the Republic of Austria from 2004 to 2016. From 1975 to 1983, he served as executive chairman of the Social Democratic Party in the Austrian parliament, and from 1971 to 2004, he was a member of the Austrian national assembly. Dr. Fischer served as minister of science of Austria from 1983 to 1987 and as president of the national council from 1990 to 2002. Together with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, he currently leads the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens in Vienna. Dr. Fischer also serves as president of the Institute for Human Sciences.
