The debate over gun control in America will not end any time soon.
The right to carry a gun is enshrined in the US Constitution. So, it is perhaps unsurprising that almost half of all American households own at least one firearm. Gun ownership is on a steady rise and had reached one gun per capita in 2009.
Despite a decline in the number of gun deaths in the United States, there were over 8,500 murders recorded in 2011, begging the question of whether public ownership of firearms leads to increased security, or if it makes life in America more dangerous.
With the latest gun-related tragedy occurring in Charleston, South Carolina, the debate over gun control in America will continue.
