Dear FO° Reader,

As we embrace the dawn of a new year, Fair Observer invites you to be an integral part of our mission to foster a truly global conversation. Together, we can understand how narratives are constructed and learn how to deconstruct the information we see on news media.

As you know, we follow a bottom-up model, not a top-down approach. We are not oracles who paint the picture of the world. It is people like you who publish with us. All we ask is that you make fact-based, well-reasoned arguments.

So, let us ask you a few key questions. Have you ever dreamt of sharing your thoughts, ideas or experiences with a broader, even global, audience? If you are already publishing your thoughts, do you feel you have a rather niche readership? If so, would you like to write for or interview with us? Have you seen our World War II timeline and would you like to work on other timelines such as one on the Cold War? If you are a teacher at a high school, college or university, are your students looking for an immersive, experiential and educational real-world project or experience?

At Fair Observer, we believe in the power of diverse voices and varied perspectives. We believe that your perspective matters. So, let us help you reach an audience of engaged, inquisitive people from around the world.

“I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and look at it, until it shines.”

— Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

More than a publication

The Football Club (FC) Barcelona has a simple motto: Més que un Club. It literally means more than a club. In the days when General Francisco Franco ruled Spain with an iron hand, this was one of the few places where Catalan was spoken. Barcelona has since fallen from its exalted status but its motto once had great meaning.

If FC Barcelona was once Més que un Club, Fair Observer is now much more than an online publication. We are a forum for debate and discourse. We are a community of authors and editors who want to inform and educate. We publish timelines, multimedia content, podcasts, videos, articles and more. We train young editors and authors from around the world.

Remember, our independent nonprofit organization is powered by volunteers. Whether you have skills in writing, editing, podcast production, video editing, social media, grant writing or fundraising, we need you.

Let us come together to become more than the sum of our parts and create a new media model for our troubled times. Together, we can create a more informed, thoughtful and connected world.

We wish you a most wonderful 2024 and thank you for being a valued member of our community. And we really look forward to hearing from you.

Our best wishes and warmest regards,

We are an independent nonprofit organization. We do not have a paywall or ads. We believe news must be free for everyone from Detroit to Dakar. Yet servers, images, newsletters, web developers and editors cost money. So, please become a recurring donor to keep Fair Observer free, fair and independent.

We publish 2,500+ voices from 90+ countries. We also conduct education and training programs on subjects ranging from digital media and journalism to writing and critical thinking. This doesn’t come cheap. Servers, editors, trainers and web developers cost money.
