The people always ask us: “Will the stadium be finished? This year?” And I always answer: “Yes, it will be finished, either in October or in November. And then we will formally open it. Now it is ready at 87 percent and we are working on the roof with its special plastic membrane. The stadium was designed by Hamburg architecture office Gerkan, Marg and partner (gmp). They have sketched a unique roof which is light-permeable, resistant to fire, and self-cleaning. Moreover, the carrier masts are flexible and react to the weight of snow and rain. The stadium offers seats for 68,000 visitors in total. After EURO 2012 we want to use it for other sports events, for athletic competitions, for conferences, and bowling. I know that many citizens in Kiev are skeptical about this football event but I know that deep-down they are actually lucky. Since this stadium will be there after EURO, their children will benefit from it. I am sure all of Ukraine will benefit from this event because the country will become more well-known as a result of this development. In the future we will welcome more tourists and the interest of foreign investors in new projects will rise."
